As we continue to stretch our wings in the industry, our latest contract involved in live broadcasting an inter-nation sporting event. Our team at Firefly Media – our media production arm was ready and willing with their skilled team. This sure got us warmed up right after the Avurudhu holidays (Sinhala and Tamil New Year holiday celebrated in Sri Lanka).
SAISA which stands for The South Asian Inter-Scholastic Association is an initiative that allows students from top 10 international schools of South Asia (India, Bangladesh, Nepal,Oman, Pakistan) to compete in various athletic & non-athletic feats. The Overseas School of Colombo hosted the Track and Field events this year. We teamed with the IT department of the school to setup a multi-camera video production and a live broadcast on YouTube. The footage was also used in re-affirming the judge’s decisions for any party that required a replay.
Our work started a day before the event where we setup and tested all the gear. Multiple HD streams were setup for activities that occurred simultaneously. Coaches, teachers, students & parents from the respective countries could enjoy the action as it happened on the field through their own computers, smart phones and TVs.
Apart from our passion in this line of work, the positive comments from the teachers and parents from hundreds of miles away drove us throughout the days. We realized that the task laid upon us was beyond a professional production, and more about connecting parents with their kids on the field.
Our appreciation goes out to the amazing staff members of IT department & the student media unit of The Overseas School of Colombo for their continued support throughout the event.
